Existing systems

Smart home system takeover, rescue and upgrade.

You may have bought a property with automation already installed, lost contact with the original installer, inherited poor documentation or reached the point where a once clever setup has become unreliable. Inteto can audit the installation, recover the technical position where possible and create a practical support or improvement plan.

Keep what works. Stabilise what matters. Replace only what earns its place.

Common reasons people contact us

The technology may still be fundamentally sound. The problem is often ownership, access, documentation, networking, ageing hardware or years of unstructured changes.

New property owner

You inherited a smart home, but nobody explained it and the seller or installer cannot help.

Original installer unavailable

The system needs changes or repair, but the previous provider has closed, moved on or stopped responding.

Unreliable or confusing system

Automations conflict, apps have multiplied, rooms behave inconsistently or simple changes feel risky.

No documentation or backups

There is no clear drawing, device schedule, configuration archive, password record or support history.

Renovation or extension

The existing controls need to expand into new rooms without discarding useful infrastructure.

Move towards Loxone

You want a staged route from mixed or unsupported technology to a cleaner Loxone centred architecture.

Systems we can assess

Our starting point is not to promise that every product can be repaired indefinitely. It is to establish what is present, what access is available and which route provides the most supportable result.

Existing Loxone

  • Configuration and backup review
  • Miniserver, Extension, Tree, Air and network assessment
  • Fault finding, reprogramming and room changes
  • Additional lighting, climate, shading, energy or security functions
  • New documentation and support arrangements

Control4, Nice, ELAN and mixed professional systems

  • System inventory and architecture review
  • Controller, network and interface assessment
  • Determine what can remain stable and supportable
  • Integration with Loxone where technically sensible
  • Phased migration where the existing platform no longer fits the requirement

Home Assistant, HOOBS and consumer systems

  • Host, backup and network review
  • Integration and automation rationalisation
  • Removal of duplicate or abandoned devices
  • Retain useful dashboards, voice and specialist integrations as supporting layers

Crestron, KNX and Lutron estates

  • Wider architecture and interface assessment
  • Identify what can be integrated or retained
  • Coordinate with the appropriate manufacturer specialist where platform specific engineering is required
  • Avoid unnecessary replacement of well designed specialist systems

Our takeover process

The process is deliberately evidence led. We do not start changing live automation until backups, dependencies and risks are understood.

1

Initial evidence

Photos, app screenshots, model numbers, drawings, passwords, project files and a clear list of current problems.

2

Site and network audit

Inspect control panels, power supplies, controllers, field devices, network services, interfaces and system health.

3

Protect and stabilise

Secure configuration backups where possible, document access and correct the priority faults that affect daily use.

4

Roadmap and support

Agree what stays, what changes now, what can wait and how the installation will be documented and supported.

What a good takeover should leave behind

  • A known, backed up configuration where the platform permits
  • Clear administrator and user access
  • An equipment and integration inventory
  • Documented network addresses and dependencies
  • Priority faults resolved or clearly costed
  • A supportable control strategy rather than accumulated workarounds
  • A list of obsolete or unsupported components
  • A phased upgrade plan that protects useful investment
  • Clear responsibility for specialist systems and compliance work
  • A sensible route for future additions

The aim is operational control and a known support position, not simply another round of undocumented changes.

Important limitations

Takeover work has more unknowns than a new installation. We therefore confirm scope after an audit rather than offering blanket guarantees.

Access matters

Recovery may depend on administrator credentials, configuration files, cloud accounts, licences, encryption keys or cooperation from the previous provider.

Hardware condition matters

Ageing controllers, damaged wiring, obsolete devices or unavailable parts may limit what can be retained economically.

Specialist boundaries matter

Electrical, fire, intruder alarm, access and manufacturer specific work may require the appropriate qualified or accredited specialist.

Loxone owners: Loxone itself advises owners of an existing Loxone home that a new registered installer can be appointed when the original partner is unavailable. Read the official Loxone guidance.

Existing system takeover questions

Can you take over a Loxone system installed by another company?

Yes. Subject to access and an initial audit, we can review the configuration, secure backups, correct faults, make changes and establish a new support relationship.

Can you support Control4, Nice or ELAN?

We can assess these installations and have relevant experience. The right route may be direct support, integration, coordination with another specialist or a phased move towards Loxone. We confirm that after checking the actual system.

Can you rescue a Home Assistant or HOOBS setup?

Yes. We can review the host, network, backups, integrations and automations, then simplify and document the setup. Support for community integrations and cloud services remains subject to the products involved.

Will everything need replacing?

No. We prefer to keep equipment that is safe, useful and supportable. Replacement is recommended only where the existing route is obsolete, unreliable or creates unreasonable complexity.

What should I send before the first visit?

Photographs of panels, controllers and keypads; app screenshots; model numbers; drawings; project files; credentials; invoices; and a short list of what currently works and what does not.

Do not wait for the system to fail completely.

A controlled audit is easier than emergency recovery after a controller, power supply, network service or account has been lost. Send us the outline and we will tell you what evidence to collect next.
